Section 14-8 (TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM ACCOMMODATION), applies equally at Swoop and WestJet mainline.

14-8.01. “The Company shall provide transportation to and from the airport when a Pilot is required to layover away from their Permanent Base. When transportation is not provided within forty (0:40) minutes after Release Time, or within ten minutes (0:10) of the scheduled hotel shuttle departure time from the hotel, Pilots shall be reimbursed for the actual expenses incurred for transportation (e.g. taxi/rideshare) to or from the airport. A receipt must be included for the reimbursement.”

Transportation will always be provided by WestJet/Swoop when a pilot is required by the company to layover away from his/her permanent base for any reason (pairings, training, meetings, etc.). There may be times when the transportation does not arrive in a timely manner. If your ride does not arrive within 40 minutes after your release time (see release time in table below) or within 10 minutes of your scheduled hotel departure time, you should take your own transportation (e.g., taxi) to or from the airport.

The intent behind this section is to prevent a transportation holdup from delaying the departure of a flight or unduly cutting into pilot’s rest period. It also incentivizes management to rectify a transportation issue if it is becoming a regular occurrence.

In order to be reimbursed for the expense incurred, you will be required to submit an expense report with a copy of the receipt. We have created a how-to guide with step-by-step instructions including screenshots. To view this guide, visitthis knowledge base link .

Please note that this applies to pilots only. Cabin crew have their own work rules and processes, so although you may choose to pay for another taxi to accommodate your entire crew if necessary, you will only be reimbursed for pilot transportation (i.e., one taxi shared between the captain and first officer).
